Tegrant Corporation, Alloyd Brands signs a licensing agreement with MeadWestvaco Corporation for Natralock®

Jun 6, 2008 8:00AM
DEKALB, ILLINOIS – (June 3, 2008) – Tegrant Corporation, Alloyd Brands announced that it has entered into a licensing agreement with MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV) to manufacture and market Natralock® Security Packaging, a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic clamshells. MWV’s Natralock paperboard-based packaging offers brand owners a theft-resistant, renewable solution that uses 50 to 60 percent less plastic on average than clamshells, without compromising security, durability or visibility.

"We are very excited to be able to offer our customers Natralock as an additional sustainable packaging solution,” says William Kelly, President of Tegrant Corporation, Alloyd Brands. “This agreement with MWV is another step in the execution of our strategy to provide our customers with fully integrated and innovative packaging solutions that differentiate their brands in the marketplace. The Natralock material expands the product offering from our Dot Printed Products facilities thus enhancing Alloyd Brands’ ability to provide complete packaging solutions to our customers.”

“Natralock is an exciting, new, cost-effective packaging solution enabling manufacturers to showcase products in a secure, sustainable manner while increasing shelf impact,” says Jeff Kellogg, Vice President of Natralock Security Packaging, MWV. “We are excited to enter into this licensing agreement with Alloyd Brands to expand our distribution base and help build rapid awareness and adoption of Natralock Security Packaging among leading manufacturers and retailers.”

Natralock security packaging features a proprietary tear-resistant paperboard, sealed around a thermoformed blister creating a high-impact, theft-deterrent package that is nearly impossible to tear open in stores, but can quickly and easily be opened at home with scissors. The paperboard is manufactured from a renewable, easy-to-recycle material that reduces the use of plastic. Natralock packaging provides a glare-free customized billboard that supports high quality, bolder graphics and special printing effects that enhance branding and product visibility.

The packaging can use existing Alloyd Brands’ sealing machines and the changeover from clamshells is quick, easy and inexpensive. When compared to radio frequency sealed clamshells, Natralock can increase production rates and efficiencies, sealing on average up to 40-60 percent faster when running on Alloyd Brands heat sealing machines.
